How do i find out about old stocks from 1978?

permaloy corp stocks ,i have a stock with 2000 shares and i need to know if its still valid and how much its worth

  • looks like it's a defunct Corporation. I doubt your shares are worth anything. If you have the actual paper shares, they may be of interest to collectors.

To search more details, the only thing I can think of is to go to a library that has the Wall Street Journal from that time period and search through the paper to find anthing about what happened - did they go bankrupt - where they purchased and so on.
  • If you have the stock certificate you can take it to a broker and they will be able to tell you, after some research, what your stock is worth. If you do not have a broker then you can try your bank. As long as the company is still in business then you can either sell your shares, keep the certificate, or have the broker/bank open an account for you and hold your shares. If the company has merged or been bought out then the the new company should honor your shares. Consult a financial professional for help. Keep in mind that if you sell there may be a tax liability and you should consult your tax advisor.
  • Stock Symbol: PLOC on the penny stock market.

I'm sorry to report that I found the stock symbol, but no price quotes.

I am NOT a professional. My answer is not the final solution, but it's not pretty. I did find one website that was selling a stock certificate for that stock for less than $75.00 See the third link. Be aware they offer a service and charge a fee. That said, it may be worth it to have them certify the stock is worthless and claim the loss on your taxes depending on what you really paid for it. IF you inherited it, the tax loss is limited to the value of the stock when you inherited it.
  • There is no listed Permaloy Corp on any exchange. If your stock is for the North Ogden (Utah) Permaloy Corporation, its site is now a Superfund Cleanup site so would be long gone.
