How do I quit my new job?
I am pathetic at my job as a cashier. That is the main reason I want to quit. I can't believe I stink at such an easy job. I have only worked there for a month and I am tired of the rude customers and impatient co-workers. I hate not knowing what to do and using "I'm new" as a lame excuse. There's a girl who's barely 16 that started the job the same time as me and she is far more competent than I and makes friends with the co-workers far easier.
When I quit I'm going to tell my boss that my work load in college is bigger than I expected and I need more time for it. That is really true because I'd rather focus on school anyway.
I'm aware that I have to give a two weeks notice but if I stay for more than a few days I'll either go insane or be scarred by a customer's or co-worker's hurtful words for a very long time.
Does it really matter if I quit after only a month? It's not like my future will have anything to do with Sears. Would I have to list it as a reference?
JUST MAKE SURE YOU FILL IN THE GAPS You don't have to list it as a reference.
Don't worry I know of others who quit their job a day after assuming it.
If you're no longer happy then just go. Life is too short to be wasted on a job that sucks. look if you feel it would be a good refrence i would give them a two week notice, usually i dont use a former job as a refrence unless i worked there over 90 days. dont let these people initimidate you. so what you dont like the job and need more time for your school, that is your business. and as far as the easy job bein hard for you, well it sounds to me like the people make you nervous and arent very friendly so thats probally why it is hard....good luck and dont worry about it. you dont have to put it down on your resume /reference if you don't choose to as you are still in college most people would not notice any timeline factor in your work life , they may just assume that you have only been in college.
where i live , ( australia ) you don't need to bother giving 2 weeks notice if your job is only a casual job, but it is nice to give some notice just to keep a good name for yourself as you don't know when you might need this in the big wide world someday.
You could try to give yourself a bit more time to improve at the job and treat it like a challenge, as you say you can't beleive you are so bad at such an easy job!
Personally i don't think it's such an easy job as I did it for years and there are a lot of demands in the job, but I am sure if you chose to you could do it just fine. it doesnt really matter if you quit.. you dont need a cashier job as a reference.. but try to never burn any bridges when u leave a job it can come back to haunt you one day. Are u sure u just want to give up..... any time u have a job dealing with customers your going to get people complaining and bitching... just find a way to solve the problems and dont take there complaining and bitching to heart.. its just the job... theres alot of jobs that are much worse then yours.... maybe this line of work is just not for you and in that case find something that u do like... good luck ! First of all, you need to raise your self esteem.
Remember, it's just a retail job. Simply give them your two weeks. That's it. If they ask why, well, you just provided us with an answer. I don't see what the problem is.
Rude customers are always gonna be around as long as you're within a job industry that deals directly with the public.
You'd probably still have to list it as one of your past jobs (other work places may look into your work history, I know Circuit City does). Again, if you're telling them what you mentioned above, then you're ok. I think you have inferiority complex first i will suggest you to be positive about yourself and think positive.
Usually Girls can attract mens by their sweet words ;) so don't worry just concentrate on your work, Girls usually
have softcorner from all.
As you said you are working as cashier you should be more concern about your job as it deals with money if due to your lack of your interest in job you may do some mistake which may affect your overall performance. Better stick to your job
and try to devote yourself in it don't worry about your clients and co-worker.
Just try to make them happy with your good words and instant service.
Just my personal opinion :)
